We supply steel base plates for heavy-duty structural projects with plate thicknesses ranging from 10mm to 100mm, available in three structural configurations: flat type, drilled type, and stiffened type. Each base plate is fabricated per the project-specified design code, with emphasis on meeting ACI 318-19 concrete bearing strength and load transfer requirements between the column and the foundation. As the key load-transfer component between steel columns and concrete foundations, base plates disperse axial compression, shear, and bending moment loads into the foundation.

Types of Steel Base Plates
We produce three base plate configurations. Types are classified by structural feature: no holes = flat; with holes, no stiffeners = drilled; with stiffener ribs = stiffened.

Type 1: Flat Plate
| Thickness | 10 – 25mm |
| Structure | Flat rectangular or square plate, no holes, no stiffeners |
| Application | Light to medium columns, equipment bases, solar PV brackets, sign poles |
| Advantages | Simple processing, low cost, fast fabrication |
Type 2: Drilled Plate
| Thickness | 10 – 40mm |
| Structure | Plate with pre-drilled anchor bolt holes (4 / 6 / 8 holes), no stiffeners |
| Hole Diameter | Standard: bolt dia + 5mm; Oversized: bolt dia + 8mm; Slotted: custom |
| Application | Standard steel columns in workshops, industrial platforms, equipment foundations |
| Advantages | Accurate positioning, compatible with standard anchor bolts, fast field installation |

Type 3: Stiffened Plate
| Thickness | 25 – 60mm |
| Structure | Base plate with vertical stiffener ribs welded between column and plate |
| Stiffeners | Typically 12–20mm thick, 4–8 pieces depending on column section |
| Application | Medium to high moment loads, lateral-force-resisting columns, wind/seismic zones |
| Advantages | Reduces required plate thickness, resists rotational forces, improves load distribution |
| Welding | Fillet weld or PJP groove weld per AWS D1.1 |
For heavy-duty plate products with thicknesses 40–100mm+ and complex stiffening, see Heavy-Duty Base Plate for Structural Columns
Selection Guide
| Load Range | Column Type | Project Type | Recommended Type | Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| < 500 kN | H-section / tube | Solar, light equipment | Flat Plate | 10 – 16mm |
| 500 – 1,500 kN | H-section / box | Industrial building | Drilled Plate | 16 – 25mm |
| 1,500 – 3,000 kN | Box / built-up | Mid-rise, industrial platform | Stiffened Plate | 25 – 40mm |
| > 3,000 kN / high moment | Built-up / box | High-load, seismic | → Heavy-Duty Plate | 40 – 100mm+ |
| High-strength material required | Any | Any | → High Strength Plate | Custom |
Applications of Steel Base Plates
Our base plates have been supplied to structural projects worldwide. Typical applications include:
Industrial Buildings: Column base connections for steel-framed workshops and warehouses.
Multi-Story Commercial Structures: Main column bases transferring axial and lateral loads to pile caps.
Transportation Support Structures: Base plates for steel columns connecting to concrete foundations in transportation infrastructure.
Equipment Foundations: Base plates for heavy machinery, tanks, and process equipment.
Solar PV Structures: Base plates for solar mounting systems on ground-mounted arrays.

Manufacturing Process of Steel Base Plates
All base plates are manufactured in our steel structure fabrication facility. Production follows a three-stage workflow - plate forming, welding & assembly, and surface protection & dispatch - with quality checks embedded at each stage.
| Step | Process | Equipment | Quality Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Plate Forming | Cut plate to B×N dimensions per drawings and drill anchor bolt holes | CNC plasma / flame / laser cutting; CNC gantry drilling | Length, width, hole position per drawing |
| 2. Welding & Assembly | Weld stiffener ribs to plate and column to plate per WPS; UT or MT inspection on welds | GMAW / FCAW; UT/MT flaw detector | Visual per AWS D1.1 + NDT acceptance |
| 3. Surface Protection & Dispatch | Abrasive blasting and multi-layer coating or galvanizing; final dimensional check; seaworthy packing | Blasting chamber, spray booth; CMM | Coating thickness verified; final inspection report + MTC |
Welding Qualification
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Certification | AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) |
| WPS & PQR | Per AWS D1.1, available for all standard joint configurations |
| Third-party inspection | BV, SGS supported |
