Columns and Beams
Customizable Structural Steel Columns & Beams | Factory-Direct, Engineered to Spec
Structural steel columns and beams are the load-bearing skeleton of warehouses, factories, commercial buildings, and sports arenas. We fabricate H-section columns, box columns, round pipe columns, lattice columns, H-beams, and crane girders to your drawings and to ASTM / AISC / IBC, EN, or GB standards. We do not sell from a fixed catalog — every member is customized to your span, load, and local code. Use the sections below to locate the member you need, then send us your drawings for a price.

What Is a Steel Column & a Steel Beam?
A steel column is a vertical load-bearing member that transfers compressive loads from beams, floors, and roofs down to the foundation. A steel beam is a horizontal member that carries loads across a span and transfers them to columns or walls. Together they form the load-bearing frame of a building: the load travels from the slab, through the beam, into the column, and down to the foundation. Choosing the right section and grade for each role is what keeps a structure safe and economical.

Steel Column & Beam Types Explained
Each type suits a different load, span, and aesthetic. Here is what each one is, where it fits, and why choose it.
Steel Column Types
W-Section (H-Beam) Columns
Hot-rolled H sections, the most common column for warehouse, multi-story, and equipment frames.
01
HSS & Box Columns
Square/rectangular hollow sections, ideal for architectural framing and mezzanine supports.
02
Round Pipe Columns
Lightweight round sections, often left exposed for canopies and exterior frames.
03
Lattice & Built-Up Columns
Welded plate or rolled sections for heavy industrial plants and long-span towers.
04
Wind Columns & Special Sections
Fabricated profiles that resist lateral wind loads on large workshop walls.
Steel Beam Types
05
Steel Beam Types
H-Beams / I-Beams
The workhorse of steel construction. Their shape resists bending with less material, ideal for long spans and open floor plans.
Box (Hollow) Beams
Closed hollow sections with high torsional strength, common for bridges and plaza roof systems.
Crane Girders
Engineered horizontal members that support overhead crane rails and traveling loads in workshops and factories.
Roof Beams
Purpose-built members for roof systems and wind bracing in large industrial halls.
The categories above are the standard structural member types used in steel construction. We fabricate within each type; non-standard sections can be engineered on request.

Materials & Steel Grades We Fabricate
Correct grade is the first step to safety and cost. We can certify the chemistry and mechanical properties of every heat (a CQC / mill certificate is provided).
|
Standard |
Common use |
|---|---|
|
ASTM A36 / Q235 |
Secondary & bracing members |
|
ASTM A992 / Q355 |
Primary columns & beams — higher strength, better weldability |
|
ASTM A500 / A1085 |
HSS — square / rectangular / round hollow sections |
|
ASTM A572 |
High-strength plates for crane girders & built-up members |
|
Galvanized / coated |
Exterior, high-moisture, corrosion protection |
Note:we follow standard engineering practice: main load-bearing members use high-strength steel; secondary members use standard grades — safe, and cheaper than over-engineering.
How to Choose the Right Member?
Selection is about more than size. We evaluate these with you before quoting:
Load — dead, live, wind, and seismic forces affect section and grade.
Span & deflection — longer spans need deeper members to control deflection.
Height & slenderness — taller columns need extra engineering to prevent buckling.
Fire rating — fire-resistant coatings or encasement when code requires.
Corrosion — galvanizing or specialty coatings for exterior use.
Code compliance — we build to ASTM / AISC / IBC, EN, or GB as your project requires.
Lead time & budget — standard sections ship faster; custom built-up members take longer but carry more.

Our Quality Control & Fabrication Capability
Production process
We run a full in-house production line, not just a reseller's warehouse. The whole flow — from your drawing to container-loading — is controlled under one roof:
Design — confirm your drawing · prepare fabrication / shop drawings.
Fabrication — CNC flame cutting · assembling · gantry automatic welding · straightening.
Assembly & QC — parts assembly & welding · ultrasonic testing (UT).
Finishing & delivery — shot blasting · painting · finished products · ready for shipment.

Fabrication capability
CNC cutting & drilling, beveling · automatic, semi-automatic, and submerged-arc welding · abrasive blasting to SA 2.5 · anti-rust painting or hot-dip galvanizing · final dimensional check.

Quality gates along the process
1.Incoming steel — every heat is checked against its mill certificate; chemistry and mechanical properties are verified for the grade ordered.
2.During fabrication — only AWS D1.1-qualified welders work on load-bearing joints; welding follows an approved WPS; dimensions are checked at each assembly step.
3.After fabrication — critical welds are screened by NDT (ultrasonic UT / magnetic particle MT); surface preparation, primer/coating thickness, and final dimensions are measured.
4.Independent check — third-party inspection (SGS / BV / your own engineer) can be arranged before packing.

Quality system
ISO 9001 · qualified QC inspectors · calibrated measuring equipment · traceable material and welding records.
What you receive with the goods
Mill material certificates · welding inspection records (WPS/PQR) · NDT reports · inspection photos and video · packing list — so you can validate, not just trust.

FAQ
Do you provide engineering or design support if I don't have a full drawing?
Yes. If your steel frame is still at concept stage, our structural engineers can size the columns and beams from your span, load, and bay layout, then produce the shop drawings you need.
How long do steel columns and beams last?
With proper coating and maintenance, a steel frame serves for decades. Hot-dip-galvanized or well-painted exterior members resist corrosion for many years without major work.
Are steel columns and beams fire-resistant?
Raw steel loses strength at high temperature, so when the fire code requires it we add protection — intumescent coating or encasement — sized to the member's required fire rating and tell you the finish option.
What is the difference between hot-rolled and welded built-up members?
Hot-rolled sections are standard profiles delivered from the mill, ideal for common spans. Welded built-up members are fabricated from plates to your exact dimensions, best when a standard section can't carry the load or fit the span.
What decides the price of a steel column or beam?
Mainly five things: raw steel price, quantity, steel grade, fabrication complexity (cutting, welding, surface treatment), and sea freight to your port. Send your drawing and quantity and we itemize each one.
Can I visit the factory or see production first?
Welcome. You can tour our workshop, watch the welding and QC, and even arrange third-party inspection before shipment. If you can't visit, we'll send production videos and inspection photos.
Do you ship to my country / region?
We supply 40+ countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania, by regular container, LCL, flat rack, or breakbulk. Tell us the destination port and we confirm the best routing.
What surface finishes and coating options are available?
Primer only, two-pack (epoxy/polyurethane) systems, or hot-dip galvanizing, with colors matched to your spec (e.g., RAL). We advise the right finish for your climate and exposure.
